What is Study in Canada?

Studying in Canada enables international students to enroll in academic, vocational, or language programs Canadian institutions. To attend an eligible school, students need to acquire a Study Permit, which them to remain in Canada while they study. This pathway also creates avenues for post-graduation work and the possibility of future permanent residency.

​How Studying in Canada Works?

To study in Canada, students must first receive a Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and then apply for a Study Permit through IRCC. The permit typically allows students to study full-time and work part-time during their academic term.

Study Permit Highlights

  • Study permits are usually valid for the length of the program plus an additional 90 days.

  • Most full-time international students can work up to 20 hours per week during school and full-time during scheduled breaks.

  • After graduation, eligible students can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), valid up to 3 years.

  • To qualify for a study permit, applicants typically need:

  • Letter of Acceptance (LOA) – From a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).

  • Proof of Funds – Enough to pay tuition, living expenses, and return travel.

  • Language Proficiency – IELTS/TOEFL scores may be required (depending on program/school).

  • Educational Background – Suitable for the level of the intended program.

  • Medical Exam – Required for some applicants/programs (e.g., health care).

  • Police Certificate – To prove a clean criminal record.
